/ ABSTRACT

The Žeželj Bridge is a structure 474 meters long and 31.44 meters wide, designed for both road and railway traffic, spanning the Danube River as it passes through the city of Novi Sad (Serbia). The two central spans are solved with two bowstring-type steel arches of 180 and 220 meters span, supporting a composite steel–concrete deck.

The two arches, weighing 4,700 and 6,500 tonnes, were constructed on land, each on one riverbank, and subsequently launched into their final position using rear skid shoes, with the assistance of a front pontoon to enable navigation over the Danube.

Although the project was developed by a local engineering firm, Del Ing Doo, construction was carried out by a joint venture led by the Spanish contractor Azvi. The companies ALE, K2 Ingeniería, and Pontem collaborated in the definition, control, and technical assistance during the construction process.
